If I'm up for a substantive movie, I'll take Tom Hanks in Charlie Wilson's War. But if I'm looking for feel-good, then You've Got Mail wins out, even over Sleepless in Seattle. Why these two?
In both he's deft at playing against his strengths and is quite adept at making you love to hate him, without chewing up the scenery. Hanks generously leaves room for the other actors, and trusts the story to develop. So between these two, I'll give Charlie Wilson's War the victory.
Love this interview with clips interspersed, too.
I like a few of his films but the one I like the most is "Everytime We Say Goodbye. " Very underrated movie about an American pilot who falls in love with a Jewish girl during WWII... classic Romeo and Juliet type theme of initial unrequieted love that ultimately is consummated... Hanks keeps his cool in the movie and doesn't overdo the comedic side...
You know that no one will be able to just list one and really mean it! LOL. This isn't a fair question HannahRiley!
All the movies he has appeared in are my favorites. He is such a great character actor. I can not get enough of him.
Everytime he comes out in a movie I have to run out and see it because I know it will be good...
Oh wow! Hard to pick; there are so many good ones! I would have to say "Road to Perdition.
Big, of course. That's his most famous movie.
I believe it's called Joe And The Volcano. It was the first time I saw Meg Ryan.2nd would be Road to Perdition.
Well I will say 2 movies. Forrest gump and philadelfia. Great movies indeed.
Probably the best of his career.
I'm split because I love the comedy in "The Terminal", the storyline to "Road to Perdition" but the drama of "Saving Private Ryan" and "Philadelphia". So can I have all 4 of them :).
Great question! I am not particularly a fan of Tom Hanks, but when I was younger my mom introduced me to the movies 'Big' and 'A League of Their Own'...my two favorites.
Tom Hanks is consistently solid in all his movies so it's hard to pick the best one. My two favorites are: Charlie Wilson's War and Catch Me If You Can. I also enjoy his movies for kids and kids-at-heart:1) Toy Story I, II, III2) Splash3) Big4) Polar Express.
There's so many. My top 3 would be:1) Splash2) Big3) Philadelphia.
That's extremly a tough desicion. He appeared in many great movies as well produced. I think I'll go with "The Terminal", he does the accent perfect.
The Money Pit and The Green Mile are two that come to mind right away. Can't pick just one.
I will go for "Forrest Gump". Great soundtrack and greatest the part when he run the marathon: "I am a bit tired".
I love "Big", hands down. When he nibbles on the little mini corn cob at the company party it just kills me. I know, it's not the coolest movie, but it is a cute one.
Here's the famous piano scene with Robert Loggia.
I can't believe all of you. You are so WRONG. The best Tom Hanks comedy: Bosom Buddies!(All seasons) Brilliant stuff!
And the theme is a fantastic song! youtube.com/watch?v=ORKyyHBy6JQ.
Gotta be BIG. The scene with him and the woman who wants to spend the night is forever burned in my memory. "You mean like a sleepover?
Okay, but I get the top bunk! " hahahaha. For romantic comedy, You've Got Mail is pretty high on the list too.
It's still Big. It's a fun story, but when you see a grown man do things that are "normal" for 12-year-olds, it's funny and a little jarring. youtube.com/watch?v=dh0hnaj6Uh8.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
