I like 'em all. Strange though it may seem I read all genres as long as it is a good book and an engaging narrative. As a result I've discovered great writers that I would've missed if I stuck to one or two genre.
I know this means I end up reading a lot more but this is no bad thing! I think it is a shame we don't crossover genres once in a while to try out what we may instinctively not like. A good story is a good story.
Mystery and suspense, with an emphasis on the Victorian Era and the era between the two world wars when people like Christie, sayers etc. Began their career. I prefer the subgenre of Murder Most Cozy, but will read others. Although that is my favourite, I also like reading classic fiction booksthat you'd study in school or university as well as biographies of artistic people, and anything about cats.
I enjoy mysteries, mostly about serial killers. I do have a concern that the most innovative authors may be suggesting ways for neophite serial killers to hone their craft, however.
My favorite books are True Stories and Science Fiction ( like about aliens) LOL. I like the Alien type of books because I think pretty much that their might be some truth too it. I guess I am more of a realist, considering I am a woman and not really into the fantasy love stories as my fellow sisters are hahaha.
:).
Almost exclusively Sci Fi. Can't get enough and always have a book on the go.
Hands down, it's Fantasy. I'm a complete and utter fanatic, as can be seen from my hubs:hubpages.com/hub/Fantasy-Subgenres-in-Fi... also interested in books that feature music or musicians as protagonists:hubpages.com/hub/Music-in-Fiction-The-Go... about all the links, Crobin28, but you did ask for examples. :P.
Non Fiction, I like to learn things when I read.
I like Reading Al-Qur'an best. This is my favourite. I read it every day; from the beginning until the end; again and again; never bored; even I may say I 'm addicted of reading it, because I feel uncomfortable if I miss having it just one day .
The holy book consist of around 485 pages, and I have finished reading it thoroughly hundreds of times. Reading it gives me peace and cool my mind. Beside reading Al-Qur'an, in my spare time, I like reading the books on anecdote, feng shui, philosophy, psychology, bibliography, and any other information that can enrich my insight as an English Teacher; so that in my classroom, I have more things to share to my students........!
Definitely have to go with suspense such as "Jack The Ripper: Case Closed" and more recently "Ted Bundy The Stranger Beside Me". It keeps me on the edge of my seat. Plus I've always been into crime novels, horror, things of that sort.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
