You weren't overreacting. If you spend your money at Chick-fil-a or any anti-gay business you're helping to fund your own oppression. You're not overreacting if you stand up and refuse to do that.
It's actually quite reasonable to refuse to give money to people who will turn around and use that money to harm you. (And Dan Cathy, CEO of Chick-fil-a, does far more than "disapprove of" gay people. He's given millions of dollars to anti-gay groups that work to eradicate our rights and even seek to have us killed.).
You're both right and wrong. You're wrong that the owner is homophobic. He isn't afraid of gays (what homophobia means), he's merely against the behavior they choose.
He isn't against the people, rather, the choice of behavior. You're offended for the wrong reasons! You're right if you're standing up for whatever it is you believe in.
Unfortunately in this case, you're confused about what you're supporting. The company isn't as you state, 'anti gay", but it IS "anti homosexuality". There's a distinct difference there.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
