Wicker totes sell to every age and tis a cheap material. Hemp is also a great one...If you want another idea, make hemp or bamboo socks. People are looking to save the earth and go more natural these days.
Hemp saves many, many trees every year, as does bamboo.
An easy-to-make item to sell is a coin purse that can fit credit card sized objects. It would be great to see tasteful ones that work for the 30+ crowd too (nearly all of the ones I see in stores AND online are geared toward college age and below). Busy moms with not enough free hands to tote around a handbag will find a coin purse useful that can be carried in the jeans pocket when running errands. In terms of your other interest in fabric for a tote bag, I agree that canvas would be good.
If it was made instead out of a lighter material I think it would look and sell better if it were lined. Just my personal opinon though. You can even make matching coin purse & tote bag combos using the same material!
Pillows are easy, people love them, and they fit in several different venues for shopping. It's amazing to see what creative ideas people have come up with for pillows.
Handbags and totes are a great idea, especially if made withwater resistant fabric. Another easy to sew item would be,place mats. You could make them from leftover material orrecycled material from lightly used clothes.
Nice totes would be easy and likely popular. Also those "I Spy" bags for kids. You sew a bag with a clear vinyl window and add those little clear beanies and a handful of tiny toys.
Make a list of the toys and the kids have a ball finding each object. It keeps them occupied for along time. Easy to make.
Also making totes our handbags out of leather jackets or used things you find at a thrift store can be fun and make a unique product. Placemats with matching napkins, pot holders, table runners. I'm not much of a seamstress so anything square gets my vote with no zipper!
My grandmother and I sew baby quilts for sick babies. She isn't selling them that I'm aware of, but it could eventually become a good career. Baby quilts are easy to make being relatively small.
Just follow the instructions.
Childrens clothes, specifically girls dresses and accessories.
I learned to sew at the age of 10 and the very first item I made was an apron. This is an easy project and one that should sell with all of the different varieties of fabric to choose from. You could make holiday aprons and ones to use everyday.
You can also make children's aprons so they can help in the kitchen. Have fun sewing and good luck!
At the moment I'm making pyjama shorts, they're really easy to make. Anothyer easy thing would be a pencil case/coin purse. They're so cute and handy!
Aprons in colorful cotton mismatched fabrics! Most seamstresses have left over pieces from previous projects, right? I also like the simple patterns for hats and scarfs made of polar fleece fabrics that I can just whip up in a jiffy.
I love McCalls M4681 pattern.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
