What major sporting events are in San Diego?

San Diego is blessed with two professional sports teams at the moment, hosting both the Chargers in the National Football League, and the Padres in the National League West of Major League Baseball. The Chargers management are in serious discussions to move the team to Los Angeles, but for now they will play here for the 2011 season. The San Diego Padres play at PETCO park, which is built in the modern style of baseball stadiums.

The area had a basketball team from 1978-82 called the San Diego Clippers, and they used to play at the San Diego Sports Arena, however they also moved to Los Angeles and now share a stadium with the LA Lakers. San Diego is also host for the SDSU Aztecs football team, and every year hosts yacht races, extreme sports competitions, tennis matches, and golf tournaments.
