What might be wrong with my refrigerator? Light is on, but no motor sound in frig or freezer?

Light is on, but no motor sound in frig or freezer. It's a Kenmore side by side. Like I said, the light is on but there is no motors running?

The freezer stuff is melting and the frig stuff is losing it's cold. What could be wrong? Anything I could try right now to save my stuff?

Refrigerator problems... compressor out. If your refrig isn't in its defrost cycle then it is possible the compressor is out (or compressor motor likely).

Sounds like what happened to mine! You need it serviced! Hopefully, it's under warranty.

Call Sears, they will know. Mine did some same thing and the repair guy had to replace a motor in the freezer. Is the back wall of freezer frosting over badly?

Is there water starting to leak either inside freezer or on floor? My repair guy had to defrost it all with a high powered blow dryer. Then replaced a part, a motor, I think.

They knew what the problem was as soon as I described what was happening. It would have cost about $200 if my warranty was not still good. I'm afraid you will have to call Sears and have someone come out.

Leave it plugged in so he can see the problem in person. I put all the food I wanted to keep in a cooler outside, it was winter, thank goodness. You need to take all your food to a neighbors, friend, or family.

There is nothing you can do and I am sure it is the same problem mine had! Sorry about the bad news, but you need a new part! Good luck!

Sounds like your fridge/freezer has died They have a deal going on right now where you can buy an appliance and make no payments for one full year. Some also have a $55.00 delivery rebate that you have to mail in. I had to run down there and get a new washing machine...but made sure to pay it off in about 7 months.

I did save everything....I have a freezer in my laundry room...I had to move and consolidate a bunch of stuff, but I made it work. Same thing with the frig. I have an extra one in the garage....I had to clean out both and make room and consolidate and throw away stuff to make room for the most important stuff.

I have 6 children and a husband which makes 8 of us. I have to have 2 refrigerators....and they are both usually packed full! I don't have the time or the money for this!Grrrrrr......thanks so much for you all taking the time to help me..

2 Whew, glad you didn't lose your food. I was worried about how you could keep everything frozen and refrigerated until either repairman or new fridge arrived. If the fridge IS dead, check out the deal at Home Depot...no payments for one entire year.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
