What organizations can I join to support a boycott of all corporate sponsors of all horseraces?

Similar questions: organizations join support boycott corporate sponsors horseraces.

The three biggest groups.... ...that oppose animal cruelty of all kinds are People for the Ethical Treatment of Naimals (PETA) (757-622-7382 or info@peta.org), the Humane Socitety of the United States (HSUS), and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). You might check out their websites or even contact these groups to see if they have any interest in stopping horseracing. PETA I suspect would be the most likely choice of the three.

One organization currently opposing at least specific races is the Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) ( http://www.paws.org/outreach/campaigns/omak_faq.php ) This particular group is in the state of Washington. Please note that there are many organizations called PAWS ( http://www.paws.org/about/wrongpaws/ ) but as far as I know this is the only one that focuses on horses. This blog mentions several folks interested in boycotting these races ( http://www.petconnection.com/blog/2008/05/03/jane-smiley-on-the-derby-death-of-eight-belles/ ) One person mentioned there is a small animal vet and blogger from Miami, FL, Patty Khuly, VMD, MBA.

You might contact her at [email protected] and ask if she knows of any movement you could join. Sources: Cited in Answer .

Start with the Humane Society of the United States I don't see anything outright about boycotting corporate sponsors of horseracing, but you can contact them directly. In addition, they have campaigns and programs, legislation lobbyists, and emergency services listed. On their front page today is an article about the problem with horse racing!

There may be a boycott in the making, so check it out. "We're Watching! The death of Kentucky Derby runner-up Eight Belles shines a spotlight on the largely unpublicized problems of horse racing."

2 i'm new to the world of being so appalled at a specific event that I want to take action. My gut tells me that choosing to stop purchasing certain brands is a simpler, more effective method than dealing with our currently slow to act government. Won't it stop the horseracing faster if their financial backing were taken away by a direct public outcry/ loss of customers than waiting for gov.To illegalize/ toughen standards etc? Too many separate interest groups muddying up the issues.

I don't have time to be a lobbyist or activist. I just want my purchasing habits to reflect my beliefs that cruel deadly entertainment events similar to those that occurred during the fall of the roman empire don't belong in today's world. But as I say I am a novice.

Show me a non time consuming way to seek legislation and i'll gladly do a two pronged attack .

3 I agree headflap. I try to avoid buying products from companies that do animal testing. And, I do not buy seafood that comes from Canada in an effort to support the outcry against seal hunts.

I'm still learning as well, but I feel a little better that I am proactive in doing "something" even though it may seem like a small thing.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
