The sport which would be best suited for a thirteen year old child would be one that they truly enjoy and are interested in. Some common options at that age would include soccer, softball or baseball, track and field, basketball, or swimming. Depending on the child, some other sports might include hockey, lacrosse, football or gymnastics.
Any form of physical activity which the child enjoys will help to build life-long fitness appreciation. Many kids prefer to avoid team sports in their early teen years. For those, participation in activities such as martial arts, tennis, bike riding or even bowling can help with not only fitness but with confidence as well.
Avoid costly sports teams until you can discern the child's level of dedication and interest.
