I tried electroylsis, but wasn't very happy with the results. I found it to be too time-consuming, costly and... not worthwhile. Although, I just had a small area to be done, the electrolygist spent way too much time on areas which I did not think needed to be worked on.

After all of the time I spent going to see her (twice a week for the first 3 weeks; then once a week for another month,) I still feel as though I need another form of treatment, because of regrowth. I was interested in laser treatment, for the same area: the upper lip, but my dermatologist informed me that because the hair was so light, i.e. , blonde, the laser wouldn’t work correctly. As she told me, laser hair removal only works well on dark hair.

A friend of a friend mentioned to me that she had electrolysis done on her face, and would have never recommended it for me, if she had known that’s what I was going to do. She found it to be too costly, time-consuming and ineffective. She also had some scaring from the electrolysis treatment.

Her advice for me was to have the hair removed by waxing. I haven’t done that, as yet, because I have very sensitive skin, and I’m afraid of what may happen to my skin. One other thing about electrolysis, it is very painful.

On my upper lip area, I could only withstand short sessions, even after applying liquid lidocaine and other numbing liquids. FYI, I just recently read, that numbing ointments, creams, liquids, etc., can be life-threathening. Some women have died from heart problems due to these medications -- mostly used for Botox treatments.

While answering this question, I did a bit of research on different hair removal techniques. I didn’t know until this time, that there is a medication on the market that helps to slow excessive hair grownth. ------------------------------- "Eflornithine is used to slow the growth of unwanted hair on the face in women, usually around the lips or under the chin.

Eflornithine works by blocking a natural substance that is needed for hair to grow and is located in your hair follicle (the sac where each hair grows). How should this medicine be used? Eflornithine comes as a cream to apply to the skin.

It is usually applied twice a day.To help you remember to apply eflornithine cream, apply it around the same times every day, such as in the morning and in the evening. You should wait at least 8 hours between applications of eflornithine. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.

Apply eflornithine cream exactly as directed. Do not apply more or less of it or apply it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Eflornithine cream slows hair growth but does not prevent it.

You should continue to use your current method of hair removal (e.g. , shaving, plucking, cutting) or treatment while using eflornithine cream. It may take four weeks or longer before you see the full benefit of eflornithine cream.Do not stop applying eflornithine without talking to your doctor. Stopping use of eflornithine will cause hair to grow as it did before treatment.

You should notice improvement (less time spent using your current method of hair removal) within 6 months of beginning treatment with eflornithine. If no improvement is seen, your doctor will likely ask you to stop using eflornithine. It also includes a chapter on threading and another on laser physics and laser hair removal. While some textbooks incorrectly classify laser hair removal as permanent, this book does not.

Students will probably cherish this book. Complicated ideas are made simple to understand with easy to follow text accompanied by wonderful photos and graphics. I suggest that students use this book as a study guide as it is indeed comprehensive yet far lighter than the heavy textbooks you prefer not to lug.

Have you consulted a doctor? It may be a good option to cover all of your bases. I've also read that Birth control pills and anti-androgen medication can also reduce hair growth.

I do hope this answer was helpful. I’m glad you asked the question, because it helped me, too. Waxing has been the most effective for me. I've tried the usuals - shaving, plucking, waxing and epilators. I find shaving to be okay for a day or so, plucking to be effective for a week or so, and epilation to be so painful it isn't worth it.

Waxing - be it my eyebrows or my legs, seems to be the best option for me. It has reasonably long lasting results without much pain (compared to the epilator! ).

Laser works great But there are some restrictions. Your hair has to be dark, and your skin has to be light. I have a few grey hairs, and they weren't affected at all!

Hurts about as much as a tattoo, but you can get a topical anasthetic to help with that.

Laser It worked very well. It took a number of treatments, but it really lasted.
