What the heck is Kettle Corn? see details?

See details I was not wearing my glasses and when picking up micro wave pop corn in the grocery I bought Kettle Corn by mistake. When I made my first batch (without noticing it was kettle corn) it tasted so terrible I threw it out thinking something was wrong with the product. Why does kettle corn tast so different from regular micro wave popcorn?

Kettle corn It’s got sugar in it, in addition to the salt! It actually is really good, I think, although I’ve never had the microwave version of it, only the kind you get at fairs and shows outdoors! They make it in a huge black kettle (hence the name), and add sugar and salt while it’s being popped. It’s VERY popular everywhere I’ve seen it being sold!

Maybe the microwave version isn't as good, I don't know--I guess now I will have to try it! Video You can see the real stuff made here..... Sugared Popcorn It is regular salty popcorn that was originally cooked in a copper or iron pot with sugar mixed in. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kettle_corn .

Kettle corn is pop corn with sugar instead of salt Pop corn was a Tribal America invention. Little devlis hide inside the corn and when heated the corn the little demons had to get hot so they turned the corn inside out to get out in a hurry. Old indian folk tale.

Indians ate it with nothing on it. Alonge come the pale faces and they poped it in a kettle thus the name kettle corn. Technically all pop corn was kettle corn intil the micro wave came along. It tastes better if you pop it in a kettle.

Did it all the time. The youngens out there do not know this The microwave is just faster and less messy. The pale faces thought it was bland and added sugar, then came molases and finally butter the sweet kind.

The sugar kind was most popular through the 19th century. Some where around the turn of the century some one tried salt and that became the favorite. Sugared pop corn is a acquired taste but it is no different then salted except for the taste.

I do not care for it either. I quess the pop corn manufactures are trying to bring it back. Good luck to them .

It is sweet instead of salty, I'm not a fan Instead of being salted, kettle corn is sweetened. Not in a good caramel way either, like they took plain white sugar and in place of salt added it. I'm seriously not a fan and had the same reaction the first time I tried it.

Interestingly, if you make your own popcorn and do a 50-50 with salt and sugar, it's really great.

I love Kettle Corn! The difference between regular popcorn and Kettle Corn is the sugar added to Kettle Corn. It is also salted - so you get the sweet/salty taste.

The best way to sample good Kettle Corn is head to your local farmer's markets all the markets in my local area always have someone selling Kettle Corn. It is 1000% better than microwave kettle corn. Sources: Many many bags of Kettle Corn at the Farmer's Market .
