I still carry the scars from my very first action! Yep! I have an "expired question" on my record that haunts me to this day, and will probably follow me to the grave.
Back in June, I received the email from Amazon telling me about the site and asking me to check it out. I did, and spent the first day mostly just sniffing around. I did answer a question (still remember--somebody wanted to know the artist of a painting).
Then I saw another question that intrigued me, but I didn't understand. It said simply, "speakeasy-thai. " It caught my interest because my husband had gone to DLI (Defense Language Institute) for Thai,so I wondered what they wanted. So I clicked on the question, and there was nothing else.
I was like, "WTF? " I had no clue what the person wanted, so I just clicked out of it and left it there. I hadn't figured out about clarification questions or how to abandon an answer yet.
I didn't come back to the site for about 2 weeks, and I didn't even notice that I had the expired answer until a long time later. But because of it, now I'll always remember my "Askville anniversary:" June 12, 2007!.
Passively, I looked around a lot first. First, I read a lot of questions and answers. I poked around. My first active action (as opposed to those more passive ones) was to answer Sardis's question: What would you make for your ice cream mix in?
I was really nervous about answering something poorly or wrong. I didn't know how nice people are in general on answers around here. I'd just finished making ginger peach ice cream that was delicious so I knew I had to answer.
I don't think it was until about a week later that I got the nerve to ask a question. We couldn't search yet or do any of the fancy, new fangled things we can do now, and I was terrified of asking something that had already been asked. I asked for recipes for acorn squash.
I still spend most of my time answering questions, but I was pretty shocked at the number I've asked when I went to my history just now. It looks like I answer about ten questions for every one I ask. I didn't realize I'd asked so many!

I did this. I hadn't heard of Askville until I got an invitation from Amazon to participate. That was on July 26 of this year.
I answered a question, specifically, this one: askville.amazon.com/people-NASA-atmosphe... Followed shortly afterwards by this one: askville.amazon.com/amp-car-stopped-powe... It got a Great (5 stars now) and a Best Answer, and from that point on, I was hooked. The rest is history! To make a short story long, as I tend to do, I once did a lot of writing on my job.
I don't do very much of it any more, and I miss it. This is a great way for me to pour out some of the trivia I've picked up over the years - and there is a lot of it, because there've been a lot of years. And I don't mind confessing that it gives me a chance to show off a little.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
