I am going to a pain clinic for pain in my hip. The pain is unreal and has been for several years. Will this doctor give me pain medicine besides a shot in the hip?

It should depend on what is wrong with your hip. Some pain centers are just legal outlets for pain meds. Others are actually trying to help.
Why do you have the pain? Injury, broken bone, leg length imbalance, one pronated or flat foot? Then again, hip pain can come from areas above the hip, sacroiliac issues, spinal issues etc. You can't cure anything unless you know the actual cause of the problem.
Western medicine in many cases only looks to symptoms. I would suggest going to an orthopedic specialist before a pain clinic. If they can't help, perhaps a neurologist.
You need to find out why you are having the pain before proper treatment can begin. Don't just mask the pain, it could be hiding something serious. Sources: Orthopedic & medical massage training.
No, they will cater your pain relief to your type of problem and do what is best. How Is Pain Treated? Depending upon its severity, pain may be treated in a number of ways.
Symptomatic options for the treatment of pain may include one or more of the following:Drug treatments such as non-prescription medications like Aleve, Motrin and Tylenol or stronger medications such as morphine, codeine or anesthesia. Nerve blocks (the blocking of a group of nerves with local anesthetics) Alternative treatments such as acupuncture, relaxation and biofeedback Electrical stimulation Physical therapy Surgery Psychological counseling Behavior modification Some pain medicines are more effective in fighting pain when they are combined with other methods of treatment. You may need to try various methods to maintain maximum pain relief.

2 Hii there. In my experience, they slap a paper filled with pain killers in front of you and say, "pick one". I swear.
It happened to me. You can't make this crap up.

3 I am familiar with two people treated at the Pain Management Center in Birmingham, AL, which I understand is one of the best in the US. Neither were treated with drugs. Exercise, diet, psychological counseling, etc were the main treatments used to manage the pain.
Hope you can get some relief.

4 Yes, pain and it's very cavalier to think that the above posters have so airily dismissed the use of pain meds. For myself, I do seek counsiling, but I could not bear getting into town without my breakthrough pain meds. I would like a quality of life.
Not just to sit back in my chair in agony, enduring life. It's funny, yes, opiods are habituating, people gooble down benzodiazipines like multi-vitamins, (Valium, xanax, etc) yet these seemingly "harmless" litle pills are MUCH MORE addictive, the withdrawal from them is often considered a medical emergency. "counseling" is a nice comfort, but not much of a therapeutic intervention when the patient is SUFFERING RIGHT NOW!
Tell your Doc. You cannot endure another 3 years, you need relief now! If he denies you, he has.
Chosen the wrong specialty. PM (unlike a regular Dr. office) is more like hospice. DEA leaves them pretty much alone, they don't question daily stacks of narcotic pain scripts.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
