What's cookin' for dinner today? What the tradition of Easter Dinner at your house?

Usually, at our place, it was always ham, yams and an assortment of traditional goodies. Not this year...I am on day 16 of NO COOKING. No, I've not gone on strike...my daughter, 39, moved home to heal, both physically and emotionally...and she's spoiling me rotten.

Today, she's got the pork roast, potatoes and carrots in the oven and strawberry shortake for dessert. After cooking for a family of 8, doing all the holiday meals every year, I am totally in 'heaven'. What's going on at your house for Easter?

The tradition is for the whole family to gather together. Having our large, extended family coming together from different parts of the country is the biggest Easter tradition we have. We used to have the traditional, ham, deviled eggs, and so on.

Now the focus is more on getting together, playing cards, talking... Yesterday we all gathered for pizza and snacks. This morning there was a big ol’ Easter Egg Hunt for the nieces and nephews. Most of us followed this with church at a variety of places of worship.

And this afternoon our big Easter Dinner was at a Japanese steakhouse. YUMMY! The time with family was traditional, the food not so much.

But the entire weekend was great fun! Wow! Your dinner sounds great! We did chicken breasts, with noodles and rice and other assorted goodies, including my daughter's favorite, Win Shuler's Bar Cheese.

I'm not sure if that's something that's distributed all over or just here in Michigan, as they have the Win Shulers restaurant here. I only had 4 for dinner; my daughter and her boyfriend are here, so that's not too bad. I don't mind the cooking at all; but it's the clean up that's a pain!

I do try to clean as I cook, so I don't have a kitchen full of dishes when I'm done. But still there is lots to clean up.... I wouldn't mind a huge family dinner--if someone else helps clean up afterwards and also I have help getting the house all ready for the event! The cooking is the easy part!

Sounds Good Cooked Ham and Company Potatoes, Yams,Green Bean Casserole, French Bread, Pea Salad, Deviled eggs. Watched the entire first season or I am Earl only had One of the kids at home and they stayed at a friends most of the weekend and only came home to eat, so it was nice to have just me and the wife alone if you know what I mean. My family never really had a big Easter feast but my wife’s family does. There is always ham and sometimes turkey. This Easter there was also creamed corn, green beans, broccoli casserole, (yuck!) potato salad, rolls and all sorts of deserts.

Because of an illness in my family we weren’t asked to bring much and the meal suffered because of it. Next year if all is back to normal I will fix some cheesy potatoes and maybe some dressing to go along with the turkey. If I get up the nerve to try and cook a lamb before then to see how it goes I might just take some lamb too.

No tradition this year We decided to eschew the usual chaos of my husband's family (yeah, no ham, coleslaw, pickles, olives, and that stuff with the canned oranges and marshmallows - ugh! ). I asked my guys to pick one thing to add to dinner so we're having lamb (not because of any tradition) sweet potatoes, asparagus, and my youngest is having a bottle and some pureed peas and carrots (7months).

It's quiet. Nobody is talking at the same time, saying nothing and yelling to be heard. There isn't a single bit of any of the above items and for dessert we're making ice cream sundaes.It's heaven!

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
