New York- Do it Cheap! As a native New Yorker, I take my knowledge about the city for granted. Working in a comprehensive bookstore, I was perusing various travel guides when I decided to check out some of the guides writtten for exploring New York City.As you can imagine, one does not make much money working in a bookstore, so a limited budget is expected... The "Let's Go" series is without a doubt the BEST guidebooks for traveling anywhere on a budget, but especially for New York City.
The guides are compiled by college students who are actually placed on assignment in various parts of the city; they devise descriptions of the most interesting, appealing, and CHEAP places to eat, sightsee, and sleep. The Let's Go NYC was excellent in highlighting cheap accomodations that were still respectable. If you are considering traveling to NYc and need to remain within a limited budget, I suggest picking up a copy of Let's Go to examine their selections regarding places to stay.
The benefit to their guides is that they also provide etailed information on hostel options, which most travel guides do not even address. Sources: Opinion .
NYC suggestions nyctourist.com/ Here is a site that would help give you an idea of what prices may be like in NYC. If you are looking to save some money, it's not best to go when big things are going on in that are, where there might be a high demand for lodging. It's cheaper to take the subway, but if you want to get places kinda faster then take a cab, but those prices do add up.
If you do want to take the subway, I suggest finding a hotel near the subway. If you want to stay closer to a lot of places (Times Square), you may pay more with lodging, but you will save when it comes to transportation, because you will walk more since there is so much in that area. Sometimes a 10 minute cab ride can be $8-$10 each time.
If you stay on the outer parts of NYC, you will spend more to get places. But the hotels might be cheaper. I think it just really depends on if you are going there for something specific or just for a vacation.
And where you would like to stay. I don't live in NYC but I live close and go there A LOT. But I hope this info may help just a little.
