All students in college must take writing classes. Some more than others. But not all students must take fiction writing, often called creative writing.
That is probably the major difference. But there are others. In a standard class, the students read given texts and work on improving their essay writing so they can convey clear, coherent thought. In a fiction class, the students strive to express their ideas indirectly, in a fiction piece.
The standard class may well revolve around a particular topic, such as history or economics. The fiction class might also revolve around a topic, but that topic may be a bit more general, focused on different styles of fiction, namely, poetry and short story. Both classes help students develop their skill of expression.
I'm going to give you an answer based on my personal experience in college. The fictional writing class I took had me to read articles from newspapers and magazines and rewrite them, embellishing the story a bit with my own ideas. There were also photos submitted to each class member and we had to write a "story" from the photo we were given.
More emphasis was placed on our ability to write descriptions and entertaining dialogues rather than our grammar. In my critical writing class I was taught to write critiques of the material I read or the movie I viewed without focusing on the use of the word "I". My grammar was critiqued as well as punctuation.
This was by far one of the most important classes I took in undergrad because it prepared me for Thesis writing in Grad school. Basic English classes focused on sentence structure, punctuation and the ability to use correct ENGLISH GRAMMAR.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
