What's the FIRST thing DEMS should FIX after they WIN Nov. elections?

Disclosure: I'm a republican by heart, I vote independently, and I tend to vote for Democrats. I voted for Obama, Bush, Gore, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, and Reagan going back. I remember Bush in 04, there was so much hate, so many issues with Iraq, so much increasing debt, it seemed logical that he would lose in 04.

I hated him so much and yet I voted for him. The reason is because I felt he was a better person to lead American than Kerry. Kerry had no real plan, sure he and Dems blamed Bush, but how can you tear our presidency apart and restart.

I saw Bush as having a plan, even though I didn't like it much. And I felt the Dems merely wanted to blame him and tear apart what we had set out to do. In this way the GOP has a big issue come Nov.

Will they have wins? Yes, and they likely will gain seats if only because in historically presidents who gain a large number of seats during a presidential election year lose those seats in the 2nd Nov election following the gain. Reagan had this issue twice, Bush had this issue twice.

Even Clinton had this problem. But it's also likely that like Reagan who had a recession and a major bank failing, as well as low opinion polls in 82 that the opposing party (the GOP) won't have massive gains, just slight. I think they may gain a number of seats in congress because there are many up and there is some controversy over a few, but I don't think the number will matter...meaning they likely won't gain enough to matter.

Simply because there are not enough seats up for grabs this time that are Dem controlled. The big deal will be the Senate where Dems have only 57 seats, independents have 3, and the GOP has 50. THere you may likely see a lost seat or 2...and any loss for the Dems or gains for the GOP will spell an end to all future Dem legislation.

The GOP doesn't need a landslide, they need a single election win over the Dems to stop futurher laws. I also believe that most Republicans have split between the GOP and the Tea Party. Meaning there will be some GOP losses by splitting the vote.

SO in the end the Conservatives will be disappointed by any victory, whether it's 10 or 20 rep seats or by 1 or 7 Senate seats. They will not be happy regardless. And a subtle senate victory will disappoint the conservative base like they were disappoined and shocked by McCain's loss.

Finally the GOP is in for a difficult win, although they wil have some gains. Their main reason for failing to attain a total victory (in their vision) would be that their agenda is contradictory to their expected actions. While reducing taxes make sense, it doesn't make sense they will reduce govt size, or govt interference.

It also seems they really won't do anything about the bail outs they bad mouth so much. And I doubt that attacking healthcare reform will really hit an american passion because it didn't cause our recession. So in the end not a single issue they want to address woudl have avoided the recession, in fact some caused it.

Honey, I have no CLUE! I am an independent, and I have voted both ways over the years since I was 18 and had the right to vote. I take that right very seriously, and I do educate myself on the issues, and the candidates' viewpoints, as much as I can, but to tell you the truth....there is so much NEGATIVITY, I have to factor in the "hate factor" each candidate displays for his opponent.

The larger the hate factor, the less likely I am to vote for the candidate I might have otherwise chosen. My reasoning is like this: if he is willing to sling that much mud while trying to curry favor, what is he/she capable of when in a place of power? How fitting (and also how very ironic) that Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart will be holding rallies and drawing in as many or more people than real political rallies in Washington!

I am beginning to think EITHER of them would be fine candidates for Congressman! I'd vote for either one of them!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
