When I was barely 4, I'd run off to the neighbors' houses to see their books. We had plenty of books, but the unfamiliar were the most enticing! My favorite destination was at our dentist's house, several blocks away.In order to get there, I had to cross a couple of streets and I knew Mother would be out looking down the street for me, so I dashed from tree to tree, hiding behind them.
When I finally got to "Mrs. Dr. Brown's" - she would welcome me, offer me cookies and milk (while she called Mother to let her know I was there and all right). Then she'd let me browse through her grown daughters' room and look at all their keepsake books they'd loved as children. They had the complete OZ books!
Sometimes she'd let me play in their little playhouse outside and swing in the wonderful double-seated swing nearby. Those were precious moments.
Loading the truck with all our camping stuff and fishing poles and heading to the lake on Fridays after dad got off work. We'd do this all summer long. Made it sad when school started though, but it gave us something to look forward to for the summer.
Sitting by the fire and listening to the grown ups joking and then sitting on my dad's lap and falling asleep for a while, until his legs fell asleep and then mom carrying me to the camper.
Wandering around out in the pasture, just enjoying the weather, while my pony followed directly behind me in case I happened to have any apply chunks hidden away.
When I used to act as if I m very sick and can;t go to school and it was hard to convince my mother and I had to go!
When my mum use to fetch me at school when it's raining :)).
Staying at my Grandmas house. She had 250 acres, a big barn, wood shop, huge garden, cows, woods, chicken coops, ponds, a creek, it was child heaven! We got to spend a lot of summer time at her house. It was like clockwork- get up, have pancakes, go play all over the place, come back for lunch which was french fries and fish sticks, go play some more, and then come back to eat supper which was her choice.
She was always baking and cooking but right at 1:00 (i think) her 'stories' came on and you had better not bother Grandma when she was watching As The World Turns!
Going out with my father and my sisters to the animal market and buying small chicks or rabbits and bring them home . I can never forget how dad used to teach us about animals. We used to catch birds and butterflies together in the garden then set them free again.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
