Depends on whom you mean by "us". Science is moving ahead, religion notwithstanding. We will never answer all the questions about our existence and the universe; we'll just keep getting closer and closer.
Religion stands in the way of our moral progress as a society. We tend to give far too much credence to the often grotesque moral opinions of the religious, allowing them to shut down the conversation with wild assertions. But I think we're improving on that front.
Secular progress and secular values have beaten Judaism and Christianity into near-submission. Islam too, in spite of the fundamentalists. There are millions and millions of people who have brought their goodness to Islam.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
