I had a dream once when someone I know in real life, a 9/10 year old girl and the middle child of three sisters, was missing (as if abducted) -- the dream was very realistic. But all at once it occurred to me that the grandoise, semi-abandoned early 1900s convention center/auditorium was not a place I really knew, and had no clue about why (what event) we were there. Therefore, it occurred to me that I was dreaming.

Rather than waking, my desire was to use my lucid dreaming abilities to change the dream and find the girl -- as it was still very real IN the dream. I knew I was dreaming and could change the dream -- fully aware, I seemed to gain unlimited power -- I could fly, I had super strength, super power -- I could even re-arrange and totally change the building. I could alter and change my own body.

But I could not recover the missing child, and the people in the dream along with me grew more distraught. I awoke slowly over a long period of time but it still took 30-40 minutes after waking for me to fully realize it was only a dream. Conclusion: We may have states of (sub)consciosness where we can control dreams, or we may dream we can control our dreams -- but there is absolutely no guarantee we can control our dreams and their outcome.
