MPEG or DivX MPEG is the most compatible format, as it runs on both Macs and Windows machines. It can also run on older machines with ease. The only problem with MPEG is that it is old and the file size can be rather large.

DivX, on the other hand, is more recent and is constantly being built on. Unfortunately, it requires that you install software for playback.
