When traveling do you still read a map, print out directions to your destination, or solely rely on a GPS?

I usually print a copy of directions, simply because I want a general sense of where I'm going when I head out, and it bothers me that GPS devices give you one direction at a time, about a minute before a turn is coming up. I don't want to stare at the stupid thing only to think "well, if I had just known I was taking I-5 to I-405 to 2, I could have kept this stupid thing off until I got off the freeway. " So, I usually have a back-up.

I honestly don't own a road map, but I would consider that the best back-up available, since directions don't help you if you get completely off course. A map will at least show you where you are so you can pick your own route. I guess I've just been too lazy to be well-prepared :p.

We don't have a GPS. I still have maps in the car. I almost always print out directions to my destination before I leave to go anyplace, too.

We have a cell phone that is not activated but that will work for 911 in case of emergency. We keep it in the car. We live in the desert, so we also keep water in the car, as well as blankets, tire chains, jumper cables, and flashlights.

Yahoo maps is my friend. :) My husband is not computer friendly so we don't even own a GPS. He can barely work a cell phone so, no way am I going to try to teach him how to use a GPS.

Plus it would probably make him crazy and he would throw it out the window anyway.

I go to Google Maps, get directions to my destination, write them down and take the paper with me. I'll try to semi-memorize it beforehand, but I like to have a paper copy with me because I usually forget or don't think to do it. I got a GPS for Christmas, though, so all that's going to be changing!

It's still in the box right now, but I can't wait to try it out. I get lost too easily even with directions, so I figure a voice telling me specifically where to go is the next logical step up. I'll probably still print out directions though.

Can't hurt to have backup, and it's habit.

Sometimes but of course its easy to determine were we going to, Because of the technology that we have Right now just like the computer. And of course we can rely on GPS, Maybe it would be help shortly.

I actually do a combination. When traveling somewhere I don't know, I often check an online map and general directions prior to going, usually a few days before. This gives me an overview of the geography that I will be going through.

I don't like not knowing the general north/south/east/west of an area. I do print out directions as well. In the past, I have always had an atlas in the car.

If there is ever a big backup, the atlas was for finding alternate routes. I know this is what a GPS is for as well but I'm really slow when it comes to trusting new technology. It has to be around for a while for me to pick it up.

For some reason, after switching cars some years back, the map disappeared and I never replaced it. Having a map in the car is good again for that big picture of an area and is easier and can be faster response than a GPS unit. I can look over the map faster than the GPS can reload an area most likely.

I don't actually have a separate GPS unit. I have an iphone and it has a GPS thingie in it, but its not a great one. It is good enough to give me directions from one place to another.

Having moved recently, I use it quite alot. I still prefer an atlas and need to replace the one that I no longer have. There are the rare occasions where I don't have either, then I use the internal GPS and road signs.

If I know I need to go north then I find a north road until I get to somewhere that I recognize. This can work alot of the times when my husband and I just go driving around to look at places. We don't necessarily have a destination in mind and so GPS and printed directions don't necessarily help us.

I just use the Google Maps application on my phone. I have absolutely no fear of the maps or directions being incorrect because I only travel in well populated areas. I'm not sure if there used to be problems in any of the areas I travel in, but if so, they've all been fixed. It's also pretty hard to argue with Street View and the actual photographs (though I need a laptop for that - it's not included in the mobile app).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
