I think the majority of America has been rested from their apathetic sleep thanks to our current Congress and the Obama Administration. Americans are extremely upset and angry all across this land over out of controlling spending, runaway immigration, the economy and the lack of jobs. The Social Security Trust Fund has basically been broke ever since Lyndon Johnson signed legislation authorizing Social Security funds to be included into the general funds of the government.
All we really have is the money coming in on the short term and the promise of the government that the rest will be paid...potentially a bad debt. Now Congress must legislate ways to keep those who have paid into the system to be legally barred or delayed from what is rightfully theirs. In doing this they will begin the elevate the retirement age scale with rapid escalation so that it will impact a portion of the baby boomer generation either shortfalling their payments or pushing them to a full retirement age of 70.In addition, there is talk of a "qualification process" in which due consideration would be given to weighing your assets and deciding whether you were in need of Social Security Funds.
Now, while this sound reasonable to some, it would be a crime in the private sector because it more or less represents a breach of contract on the part of the government especially in light of the fact that the individual has no opportunity to opt out of the program yet will be deprived of all or part of the funds paid into the system...extortion based on false promises. If the money had been left there and potentially invested then there would be more than enough to cover the needs of Social Security. We have suffered too many years of thieves in this country and now the cows are coming home.

I think perhaps it's a question of who wakes up first, the government or the governed. In order to be successful in getting to the path it wants to be on, the government must accept that we have become a social democracy. It they want it work it, they must take a good look at socialism, where it works and why.
They must also realize that there is no great idological war between capitalism and socialism, it comes down to how people in different classes treat each other. On the other hand "We the People" must except that the Federal Government is a run away train, with a full load, of explosives, going down hill... The people are are at the bottom of the 2012 is just around the corner.
If they haven't woken up by now, I think they will sleep forever....he has committed grievous errors against our country and unless each and every one of us stand up and say we don't want this bill, it will stand as law. I have a hub with a link in it to sound off to the justice department. I pray many will read and state how they want this criminal dealt with.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
