I think you are missing the point. Let me put it in context. In the USA, the terms Left and Right have a different meaning than in a lot of other nations.
We gauge political philosophy on a line. Starting in the middle of the line we have Moderate. Moving to the Left you find, Liberalism/Progressiveism, then Socialism then Totalitarianism or total government control.
Starting in the middle and moving Right you find Conservative, Libertarian then Anarchy or no government control at all. Few if any Americans embrace either extreme, so the argument is how far to Left or Right shall we place our philosophy? This is what people are referring to Liberal and Conservative.
The reason those two terms are used is because the largest share of people fall somewhere within those two categories. In most cases, it is inaccurate to label anyone who commits a violent act according to his politics. Few perpetrators of evil are motivated by politics but it is a convenient way to damage your opponents.
When Timothy McVeigh blew up a Federal Building in Oklahoma City, many on the Left, including then President Clinton, tried to blame it on the Right. But McVeigh was acting out of a desire for revenge for perceived Federal Atrocities in Waco Texas and Ruby Ridge. He was not seeking political advantage or government overthrow.
He was simply seeking vengeance and as is often the case with people who seek vengeance, he killed a lot of innocent people including children in a daycare center that hadn't done anyone any harm. Ted Kazynski, the unibomber, killed several people in the name of Environmentalism. Does that make environmentalism evil?
I don't think so. It makes Ted Kazynski evil. This malcontent who did all this damage shooting Congresswoman Giffords, at least as far as I can see, was more akin to conspiracy nuts than any political philosophy.
Even his choice of target supports that theory. This Congresswoman is a Moderate. She may be a Democrat but she sometimes sided with Republicans, too.
She is not some ideologue. In fact, the Republicans in the House chose to open this session with a reading of the Constitution. A lot of Democrats did not even show up.
But Congresswoman Giffords not only showed up, she participated in the reading. So, anyone who tries to use this tragedy for political advantage is either misinformed or evil. I am a Conservative.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
