I was pulling my hands through my hair as I was reading this! I am sorry, but are they mad? The founding fathers were a product of their times.
We view then now through the lenses of modern day glasses and if we cannot get past that, heaven help us all. How can anyone feel the need to erase a country's history and heritage? So what that it wasn't all something to be proud of.( Whose country is?) Well have I ever got news for them.
The 60's and early 70's in America had a goodly few things not to be proud of as well. Do they intend erasing them from our collective memories lest the important people of the day's memories be tarnished as well? I don't know if I am allowed to sign the petition not being American, but I will try.
If the bad things are lost, so too are the histories of all those who brought about change. Do not they, deserve to be honoured?
First of all, the proposition is absurd. Second, I could not locate that petition from your link to even determine if it was an official "Tea Party" petition or the work of a lunatic. The latter seems more likely, it is of course possible that it is a stalking horse placed on a free petition site by people looking to discredit conservatives.
Third, if you want to get worked up over history being rewritten, here is a real threat, not some ridiculous plant by a nut or an agent provocateur: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/14...
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
