Where can I find an official listing of the beliefs held by the Roman Catholic Church?

I just need a list; no commentary, no spin. If a web source can be provided, it would be most appreciated. Asked by Cdog 51 months ago Similar questions: find official listing beliefs held Roman Catholic Church Society > Religion & Spirituality.

No such statement existed until recently... ...when the Church published an official catechism. Up to that point, formal statements of belief had been made in the creeds, but no council was exhaustive; each was convened to deal with a particular issue or set of related issues. You had to look at the declarations of all the councils collectively (and they didn't always agree with one another...).

In the 1990s, however, the Church finally put such a document together. A second edition came out about 4 years ago. As to "no commentary," I'm not sure you'll be satisfied that the Catechism provides no commentary, but what commentary is there is at least official commentary, not something from a third party.

For a condensation, you can look at the segment titled "In Brief" that closes each section. I think that's as close as you'll get to what you're looking for. Other sources will be briefer, but a third-party summary is a commentary of sorts.

If you want the official word, you'll have to endure the official commentary.
