The Casa Mañana production of Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize-winning Driving Miss Daisy, starring Tony nominee Sandy Duncan in the title role, pulls into Fort Worth April 21. Guy Stroman stages the intimate audience favorite, which will play a limited engagement at the Texas theatre through April 26. Driving Miss Daisy follows a Southern widow and her relationship with her African-American chauffer over 25 years.
Duncan is cast as Daisy Wertham alongside actor George Merritt (Ain't Misbehavin', Jekyll & Hyde) as Hoke and David Coffee as Boolie Wertham. The Casa Mañana production features costume design by LaLonnie Lehman, sound design by Ryan Mansfield and lighting design by John Bartenstein, Sam Rushen and Wally Jones. Driving Miss Daisy debuted Off-Broadway in 1987 starring Dana Ivey and Morgan Freeman, running for 1,195 performances, and was later adapted into an Academy Award-winning film starring Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman.
