Where do male feral cats go after neutering?

I had two male feral cats neutered after feeding them outside for a year (different times, not together). One was very sweet and friendly. The shy one disappeared as soon as I released him after neutering, but the friendly one stuck around for a few weeks, even sleeping on my lap a few times.

Then he disappeared. Now it's five months later, and lately I have seen him a few times along the woodline, hunting. Is this common with neutered male ferals?

Where ever the shelter who neutered them takes them. We have a feral program here, run by a humane society. They trap ferals, spay or neuter them, and then release them back at the site they were trapped at.

They usually stay within a couple of miles from where they are released .

On two occasions I had male ferals neutered, after feeding them regularly for some time, and then I released them. The shy one disappeared, never to be seen again. The friendly one, who had been coming around for 1 1/2 years, stuck around for a few weeks and even started coming inside and sleeping on my lap.

Then he disappeared. Now, five months later, I sometimes see him hunting along my woodline. Just wondering if this common... a neutered male feral ceasing to roam from their colony.

Some times they will run pretty far from home right after neutering -- it takes 30 days for the hormones to be out of their system and a male will roam up to 5 miles so they may run away from the area with the bad memories and end up a distance from your house -- the other thing I see frequantly is after a male is neutered people will pick them up and make them housecats so you never see them again ---- also if there is still an intact male or female still around they will keep the neutered males away from your house ( and the food ) .

Good for you for caring and having them neutered. The sweet and friendly cat was a stray, not feral. Hopefully someone took him in.

Feral cats are wild and distrust people, you have to work really hard to get near them.
