I think if we're going to do it (inevitable), we should put it in train now so that it can happen at the same time as Charles/William ascending the throne.
I doubt Australia will be the only country currently with a monarchy which will look at becoming a republic. The Queen is highly respected and if she follows her mother, she could have another 12 years or so on the throne. If she makes it to 100, Charles will be 77 and Camilla 78.
If Charles succeeds his mother (he might consider himself too old but he has had a long wait), and follows his father, who is currently 93, he could be on the throne for 10 - 15 years. I have no problems with either Charles or Camilla and, if we do not become a republic, look forward to them being king and queen but I expect republican moves will start in earnest during Charles's reign.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
