You can definitely launch an art career in either New York City or Los Angeles but there are some significant benefits to each city individually. The art community is more comprehensive in New York. LA can be a bit more focused on film and the community involvement in the arts is much more scattered.
That being said, the competition for art positions in New York are more cut throat and complicated. Of course there are more galleries and options as well. The weather in Los Angeles can be more inspiring if your work is more focused on an upbeat, happy style.
New York is a harsher environment but many artists find this kind of interaction inspiring. Los Angeles is a great place to be if you work in the new media versions of art. Classic art can still be accomplished in the city but finding a way to showcase such works can be as hard as creating the pieces.
New York also has a larger influx of people seeking art, so if you are looking to make monies off sales, the city offers more opportunity in addition to the greater competition. Many buyers use New York as a stopping point when seeking new artists or to expand on collections. Los Angeles is not seen the same within the standard art community.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
