Which charities do you trust and respect enough to donate your money to?

An EXCELLENT question, and one we should ALL look at carefully. For general purpose charities, I have to give first priority to the Salvation Army, and LAST PLACE to the American Red Cross. We were in Fairbanks when the great flood hit, putting the entire central part of Alaska underwater in 1967.It was a very tough time for everyone there.

After we had used up the food on hand (NO stores were open, of course! ) we heard the Red Cross had set up a tent on some high ground, and we tried to get help from them. They had food, clothing, milk and blankets there.

All for SALE! NOTHING was free, and it was cash only, which of course we did not have. Checks are worthless when the bank is under water.

My wife and infant daughter were turned away from them, but approached by a uniformed officer of the Salvation Army, who brought them to their tent, where they were given food, a change of clothes, toothbrushes and toothpaste and deoderant! Next, the Salvation Army located the bakery in town, sandbagged it, pumped the water out, located the employees, and got it running again. From there, they distributed bread by the truckload, along with C-Rations, to all in need.

I will never forget the Salvation Army, and I will never forgive the Red Cross. This, and other information relating to the ARC can be found HERE. For this reason, I also avoid the United Way, since the Red Cross is the largest recipient of their funds.

We are to help those in need; that is one of our duties. The only way we can do that is to INVESTIGATE the charities we put our money into, and make SURE they are doing what they claim they are doing..

I donate to some local charities where I know and trust the people involved. As for national charities I trust and donate to Catholic Charities and the Shriner’s Hospitals. I very much trust and respect the Priest who runs Catholic Charities in our Diocese and if the money was being wasted on the national level I really believe that he would at the very least resign his position.

I have toured the Shriner’s Hospitals and know several people who have been helped there so I trust them also. Sources: my opinion .

Do you have to pay income tax on money from a trust.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
