Explain why/why not. I absolutely LOVE both genres, but there are readers with a clear preference for one or the other. Then there are readers who simply never read this type of literature.
Both genres not only stimulate the imagination, but also provide a welcome respite from the mundane, humdrum routines of the "real" world. However, in spite of this built-in escapist feature, these two genres can also be used to explore novel (pun intended) intellectual ideas. This is especially true of the science fiction genre.
Some of my favorite authors are J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S.Lewis, Isaac Asimov, Cordwainer Smith, Anne McAffrey, Robert Heinlein, Ursula K. Leguin, J.K. Rowling, and Stephenie Meyer, who wrote The Twilight Saga. Asked by Twilightdreamlover 34 months ago Similar questions: prefer fantasy science fiction Explain Arts > Books > Books - Science Fiction.

I, too, love fantasy and science fiction. Those are the genres of film I like also. I don't really comprehend people who only like to read or watch books/movies that could really happen.
I mean, if I want to be entertained, I want to see or hear about something I can't do myself...otherwise I'd go out and do it! I agree that the themes many people enjoy are "humdrum", for me anyway. The Twilight saga is so great, I am a huge fan!
If you haven't yet, you can read the book Stephenie Meyer planned to publish from Edward's point of view at her website. She explains she isn't publishing it because it was leaked before she could finish it, and she was so "heartbroken" she decided just to put it on her website.Www.stepheniemeyer.Com I don't know if you like manga at all, but there are a lot of great titles you might enjoy, like Fruits Basket and Inuyasha that have the same romance/fantasy angle that Twilight has. Also, Dean Koontz has a lot of great novels, especially the Odd Thomas series that you may enjoy because of the science fiction paired with a great lead character.
Both Having a scientific/technical background I initially read only SF and considered Fantasy with disdain. For some reason I tried Fantasy and began to like it also. Nowadays, it seems like there is no hard core SF being published.
Maybe I’ve not been looking for it hard enough. Or maybe it is becoming to difficult for authors to write without adding fantasy elements. By ’hard core’ I mean something like the Foundation Trilogy.
Actually, I would consider ’Enders Game’ to be hard core even though it has an element of telepathy as does the Mule. These Authors are the ones of whom I've bought more than one book; so I assume I liked them. At least one of these goes back to when books were 75 cents.
I know I have more since I've not yet found the Foundation Trilogy. Isaac Asimov David Brin Philip K Dick Blade Runner and Total Recall are two exceptional movies adapted from his stories. Gordon R.

I like sci-fi and some fantasy that fits the required sci-fi context: Consistent universe. It's all make-believe, but within that make-believe, one may not contradict what one has already established. From there, complexity is good, as well as newness.
This is largely why I would prefer sci-fi that uses recent scientific discoveries, of which there are many. Danielpauldavis's Recommendations Riddle of Stars :Riddle Master Trilogy Used from: $29.99 Best fantasy book I ever read because its focus was character development. The fantasy world served that, not dominated..
2 I have always been a fan of both genres. I have read more sci-fi than fantasy, but I have far more fantasy films that I love than sci-fi films; though I suppose you aren't asking about films. I am a big Heinlein and Asimov fan, and I love the Pournelle/Niven stuff.
I like Tolkien and Rowling, but never got into Lewis. I think both genres can be intellectually stimulating, or simply escapist fluff, depending on the individual work. Each has its value.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
