I would be hesitant to bring back any extinct species back to life. The effects that it could have on our present eco-system might not be at all desirable. If however, I could be given a personal glance at a species from the past without bringing it directly back to our contemporary existence I would choose a species that I hesitate to call an animal, although just as humans are animals so were they.
I would choose 2 hominid species. An Australopithecus and a Homo Erectus. I would be fascinated to see one of the earliest hominids in the Australopithecus as well as the closest non homo sapien in the homo erectus.
The Dodo Bird. It only recently went extinct. Seems surreal that my parents could have seen one and not me.
Just seems that since it went extinct so recently it would be a good place to start "turning back time.
I think I'd like to bring back the Apatosaurus. Find a way to raise them in swampy land unfit for anything else, and use them for meat! If they were being bred and raised for meat, they'd not go extinct, and a "crop" could be had from land pretty much unusable for anything else.
That meat could be used to feed people in areas where meat is scarce. Either that, or a T-rex. For about 15 minutes, while cameras rolled.
And then it could go back to being extinct. Jurassic Park, anyone?
The Caspian tiger; I've seen pictures and drawings of them and they are beautiful!
The quagga it's half zebra, half horse extinct since 1883. It really couldn't do any harm to anyone or the enviroment if it was brought back.
The Haast's eagle. It was a giant eagle, large enough to pose a threat to humans. But because it evolved to be so large so quickly, it had a small brain. To me, that spells a giant bird that can swoop out of the sky and pick off dumb people, too stupid to avoid being eaten.
I think our planet could benefit from that right now. Death from above!(Tiny bit sarcastic today! Haha) Of course, we contributed greatly to its extinction by killing all of its primary prey animals, so we would probably quickly kill it off again.... news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/41381....

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
