I haven't seen Feinstein's new assault weapons bill, but I hope it is more specific when it comes to defining what an assault weapon is, and will include guns like the AR-15. Some conservatives will get bent out of shape by what I'm about to say but I don't mean it as an insult, just an observation. After years of watching and listening to them I've come to the conclusion that conservatives, to a large degree, are not abstract thinkers, They have difficulty with the big picture or nuance or even context.
For them it's a black or white, apples or oranges, good or evil world. That's why they seem not to understand that an issue like gun violence needs to be addressed from many different angles. Guns is just one aspect of it.
But because no one can say that guns alone are the problem they can't understand that they can still be part of the solution. If the problem isn't just about guns then in their minds it can't be a gun issue.
I do not live in TX and I am not a member of the NRA nor the ACLU. The highschool that my boys attend has had an armed guard for many years. After SH, the number of guards in all of the schools in the county were doubled.
Currently in the state where I live, it is legal for anyone with the permission of the school administrator to carry a firearm on school property. I don't know what causes mass shootings. When I was in HS in the late 1970's many students had firearms in their vehicles at school and would leave them in their vehicles and there was not a problem.
At a different high school in this area, the students would take their firearms into the school each morning, check them in with the principal, and then collect them on the way out of school in the afternoon.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
