Hmm This one is always so tough. The knee-jerk reaction is to go with something like Exorcist, but I’m going to pick another one from my library Night of the Demons A typical "kids trapped in the haunted house" with assorted things after them. This one does an amazing job of really driving home the horror of their situation.
They are trapped, and it really seems unfair as their various attempts to escape are defeated. And not just defeated, but in such a way that you can help think that they would have feel like it was utterly hopeless. Some of the scenes of the "chase" and the sheer inevitability of the fates of some of the kids truly are horrific. It also has makes great use of the soundtrack, picking some very good songs from Bauhaus.
Another reason I’m picking this one is because it isn’t as well-known as some of the others I have. My DVDs: Sources: alecto.dvdaf.com/ 67alecto's Recommendations Night of the Demons Amazon List Price: $9.98 Used from: $4.84 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5 (based on 99 reviews) .
The Birds The original Alfred "The Birds" is wonderfully creepy and suspense-packed. The brilliance of it is astounding. Birds are such simple, everyday creatures that few would fear (except for tchcock who always had bird issues in real life).
But he's able to make them menacing and terrifying without screechy sound effects or chainsaw massacres. And best of all, I love that he never tries to really explain WHY. It would've ruined the movie to come up with some hum-drum excuse about it.
The birds just do attack. And I still cringe and hide my eyes when they do. Psycho was a close second.
The Shining is probably third. You can tell I'm not as big a fan of modern horror movies. They rely too much on bright flashes and loud bangs to startle the audience.
Buckets of blood don't make a great scary movie - a truly terrifying story and phenomenon is what really rattles an audience in all the right ways. The original Dawn of the Dead No where to run, no where to hide. They just keep coming. I saw this when I was a kid and I'm still scared of zombies to this day!
I used to evaluate all the houses in my neighborhood to see which ones I thought would be the best place to "hole up" when the zombie hordes arrive. (The key is to look for houses with few first floor windows, or windows that are up high, so zombies can't crawl in) When I later saw Night of the Living Dead, I thought it was a close runner up. I loved the whole presentation of "the world has gone mad and no one knows why or how."
But nothing has matched Dawn of the Dead for sheer impact. Now that I think of it, my house is awefully dark. Halloween I saw this in the movie theatre when I was 10. Of course my parents didn't take me. I was pretty scared and I still think it was the best horror film ever made.
When I was 9 I saw Phantasm. I was so scared by this movie. I watched parts of it recently on tv and thought it was the dumbest thing I ever saw and so not scary.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
