I couldn't possibly narrow it down to just one band. I have so many favorites....
To name just a few: Judas Priest, Savatage, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Armored Saint, Motorhead, Dokken, Raven, Black Sabbath, Dio, Warrior Soul, Overkill... I could go on and on but you probably get the idea...
I have a hard time deciding between Emperor and Cannibal Corpse. Both are rather unrelenting, but I think I enjoy them most because they are so great at adding subtleties to genres that don't sound subtle to the average ear. However, neither of them have put out a good album since '01.
Check out Cannibal's Vile and Emperor's Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk.
There's a new heavy metal band I spotted called Scream Denial (myspace.com/screamdenial) I think they have chance today.
Iron Maiden.. Now nd forever.. coz they have influenced me like no other band.. its because of them I started to listenin to metal..
I might not listen to them much nw.. bt i'll worship them forever.. coz if it wasn't fr dose insanely awesome guitar riffs.. I wud never have joined a band ever..
Slipknot is my favorite! Soil is another good band along with disturbed, ill nino, hatebreed,o ya rob zombie is always a great choice!
Overkill--They've been around since 1983 and consistently put out album after album of thrash masterpieces. Don't believe me? Check out Ironbound and you will be sold I promise!
Pantera--Dimebag Darrell's the all-time best heavy metal guitarist, hands off. Philip Anselmo's growls are legendary. As well as Vinnie Paul's thundering double bass beats.
There's probablly no band that has ever sounded this tight together.
Judas Priest. Mainly, I like their songs that deal with machinery. Painkiller, Metal Gods, Electric Eye...Songs forged right out of their hometown foundry.
This is a hard one. Death, Cadaveria, Tiamat, OSI, Paradise Lost, Sigh.. Too many to name but right now, It's Cadaveria.
I truly feel that no band has come close to achieving what they have in their 20+ years of existence.
Managing to seamlessly blend together: Black Metal, Death Metal, Progressive Metal, Progressive Rock, Hard rock, Folk music, and even Jazz is nothing short of amazing.
The albums to get are: Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries.
Although the latest album (Watershed) is really good too.
Their older albums (Orchid, Morningrise, My Arms Your Hearse, Still Life) are awesome, but are more centered around the styles of Black Metal and Death Metal.
Oh! And Deliverance and Damnation are great as well!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
