In addition to Woody Guthrie, the late folk singer Odetta Holmes had a huge influence on Bob Dylan. He even said that she was the first thing to turn him on to folk singing. The video on the Mahalo page is a brief snippet from the Dylan documentary "No Direction Home."
A great talent, Odetta died this week at the age of 77.
Bob has been very clear about the fact that Woody Guthrie was by far his biggest influence. From Wikipedia... "Guthrie had been a revelation to Dylan and was the biggest influence on his early performances. Dylan would later say of Guthrie's work, "You could listen to his songs and actually learn how to live." "Initially modeling his style on the songs of Woody Guthrie" Bob consciously based his style and approach on Woody, so you can honestly hear him on all of Bob's early work, but it's particularly obvious on The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan album.
One of Dylan's major influences was the folk singer and musician Woody Guthrie. Guthrie's influence can be heard on most of Dylan's early work, including the "Song to Woody" off of Dylan's self-titled debut album.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
