I think that the biggest draft bust of the recent NFL history has to be Akili Smith. While I can’t speak for the biggest bust “ever He is certainly one of the biggest busts I’ve seen in 20+ years of watching the NFL.

Smith was an exciting quarterback at the University of Oregon, and actually played a pretty big part in turning a moribund program around, but he was anointed the second coming by the Cincinnati Bengals and failed miserably. Smith was drafted in the first round, (third pick overrall) by the Bengals and they almost immediately named him the quarterback of the future. Instead Smith was incredibly ineffective and had a hard time breaking into the starting lineup.

In 2000, Smith was named the starting quarterback despite not really earning it, and the Bengals won just two of the 11 games he started. Smith completed just 44 percent of his passes while throwing three touchdowns and six interceptions. In 2001, he played in just two games and started one and in 2002 he played and started in just one game.

He was off the team before the 2003 season started. From third overall pick, to off the team in just four years has to qualify for the biggest bust in quite a while, if not ever.

I'm shocked no one has said Ryan Leaf yet! I thought the discussion began and ended with him. What a waste of money, talent, etc.It is sickening.

The others were pretty huge disappointements though.

I think when the Packers chose Tony Manderich before Barry Sanders was a HUGE oops. I think it hurt the Packers for years. Manderich was a BUST and Sanders languished with the lowly Lions.

It's only my opinion, but you can look to the Detroit Lions for answers to most questions like this. Off the top of my head, three come to mind, Mike Williams, Charles Rodgers and Joey Harrington. Sure, I know there could be others such as Jamarcus Russel, but the book is still out there.

When I look real deep, it has to be Harrington. S biggest problem is that he was never a real football player. The first time I seen pictures of him trying to make a tackle after one of his many interceptions, I cringed.

He fell to the ground and tried to leg-whip the ball carrier returning the interception. The second time, I watched as he pretended to fall down so he didn't have to make contact. This turned out to be the more common of his two methods.

Note though that I am not saying he didn't take a lot of hits during his career; he did. They were usually sacks. Joey just did not like to initiate contact, which is a losing proposition for any Football player, especially one performing at the highest level.

He is my choice because I am just a Lion fan and was totally embarrassed watching his feeble attempts to stop a runner or to avoid a hit when he carried the ball.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
