I disagree they were "over rated" for a long time a few years back. Now nobody rates them.
England team has always been overrated since I can remember. Media pundits hailed that Golden Generation but their midfield was poor. That's what really killed them.
Their back 4 was as good as any back 4: Nevile - Ferdinand - Terry - Cole but their midfield sucked. The problem is the have no midfielders that are good technically. THe ones that are good never get the chance to have the team built around him: Scholes comes to mind and Wilshere is injured.
The media has already put the hopes of english football on Wilshere and he hasn't even played that many games. The wide players that are good never get a call-up. In that 1986 WC, John Barnes was their best winger, at the peak of his game.
He never got the chance to play until the game against Argentina which he nearly won the game for them. Beckham is hailed as a world class player by media pundits but the only skill he has was his ability to cross the ball and shoot free kicks. That's it!
Hodgson went back to pre-historic english type of football with the big man. Is Caroll a better player than Welbeck, Holt, Sturridge? No.
How he got into the XI? Its a mystery to me too. Gerrard as a CM is not going to work because Gerrard has a tendency to go for the hollywood ball which usually result in losing possession.
He can't play CAM right now because both Rooney and Young are better at that position. Roy made him captain so he has to start.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
