The Aston Martin motor company has an interesting history spanning almost 90 years. It was founded in 1913 by two men, Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. They originaly teamed up as Bamford and Martin in London, to sell vehicles made by Singer.
The decision to start building their own cars followed Martins interest in racing special cars at Aston The very first car they built as Aston Martin was a hybrid of a Coventry-Simplex engine fitted to the chassis of a 1908 Isotta-Fraschini. The onset of World War 1 saw an end to production but after the war Bamford left and funding from Count Louis Zborowski enabled the company to restart production. Aston Martin saw several changes of ownership during the following decades, they concentrated mainly on producing racing cars initially, but then developed the famous DB classic series when David Brown bought the company in 1947.
The company continues to produce quality cars and this year saw the issue of their first 4 door sports car, the Aston Martin Rapide.
