Why are Native Americans called "Indians"?

Native Americans have lived here over 50,000 years. There have only been people in Europe for 36,000 years. And DNA has proved natives aren't related to asians.

So if you still want to call native americans " Asians", then I guess (by your logic) we get to call Europeans, "Africans", right? Oh, and btw....The term "native american" was created by the US government in the 1960's. It had nothing to do with being PC.

The government needed to create a legal term to identify those citizens of tribal nations that it had a relationship with, as opposed to say, indians from Mexico or central/south america, or those indians living in Canada. So if you don't like the term, take it up with your government. They never asked us what WE wanted to be called.

The glossary used in today's global era is mostly predominated by european... and for the europeans the ''native americans'' were native to this place...they were there before the europeans...therefore they were native to the continent...and moreover they were the first humans who inhabited this continent,at least on such a large scale... so it doesn't matter where they originally came from...they can be correctly called the native americans at least in european context...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
