There is a quotation in Samskruth-'Sarve Guna Kanchanamashrayanthi' i.e. All qualities depend on money. In practical life, money makes people to to forget all other defects.
Or, money can cover many things. It is the forgetfulness of people that more than money, mental peace is important and that could be obtained even without large amount of money. Another reason is-poor people do not know how many problems riches have. So, all these make them go behind the rich, thinking they help them in need.
But such belief fails.
I think it's because most people dream of having that kind of money and fantasize of what life would be like for them if they had that much money.
I believe, as with Stephen Fry (autobiography), he states there is two nature of people. The dreamers, the ones whom will dream of stardom and it may come to them and the people that hide from the flashing lights and want to live normally.
In this day and age, we have more people whom capture both of these 'natures', they're both camera shy but have a large urge to become famous. They will sit in their houses, planning their inevitable progression to stardom and happiness.
Bad thing about these people is they're not pushers, they don't try to achieve, they only dream, alas they're always hunting for richness, happiness and acceptance. They feel as though they mean nothing in the world because they haven't made their mark, they haven't opened their favourite shop; restaurant; fragrance.
So this is why we're in an awe, because there are more dreamers that believe they can make it in the world - while they don't want to necessarily push themselves to the level. They're left with this anger, to become famous but believe they will never have the chance.
People are in awe of rich people because this world is all about material acquisition. That's what count above all other.
Rich people tends to be selfish in the majority and selfless in the minority.
They end up getting what belongs to everyone, and thereby became corrupt in morals, people envy them because the want to have the same material possession as they do.
Rich people are rich in only one aspect of their lives and sadly this is the only aspect our culture seems to really appreciate. While they may be quite poor in many other areas of their lives, it is the money which is the most visible and therefore this can delude people who are poor in that respect into believing that this "richness" of money is indicative of their happiness.
In my personal experience, being rich in money does not guarantee happiness, just like having a harmonious family life does not guarantee happiness unless you're fulfilled in other areas of your life.
It is just a common misconception, maya if you will, appropriate to our times. Other times and other cultures had and may have different misconceptions.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
