Maybe it's because some people abuse it. If a family has no food or shelter, they have every right to food stamps & welfare. Especially children.
But there are people that don't need it & trick the system to get it. That is abusive & unfair to hard working people that pay taxes and makes a mess of the economy.
I know many people who have collected and still are collecting food stamps and they ABSOLUTELY needed them. Do people not realize that there are laws called the A-Bod program and it means that if you are over 21 years of age you need to be working or volunteering for at least 24 hours a week to get food stamps. Also, TANF can only be recieved for 5 years and you have to meet Aspire guidelines which means having a part time job and or attending classes.
It is really easy to criticize something when you have never experienced it. To those I say your day will come. Karma is a funny thing.

I am not against it. I am against the people that lie to get food stamps and sell them for money. I am against people that get welfare & financially don't need it.
They lie for greed. But I am 100% for those that need it. Nobody should go without shelter & food.
Especially children. I worked for 37 years. I lost both my legs due to health problems.
If I needed help from the government, I would be entitled to it. But there are people that are working, that have lied & are receiving benefits out of greed. It's abusive & not legal.
That program is actually called ABAWD. Flip86 4 months ago .
Actually, our govt. Was never really set up for such social programs. It was the church that handled such issues.
If you look back to when Welfare program was first instituted, our budget had a surplus. So what do you do with the extra money? Since times change, so do such programs.
Additions and expansions seem to create a heavier burden on the taxpayer, causing unrest and dissatisfaction of the way they're being handled. It's not the needy most people have a problem with, it's more the system. Add into that mix, the people who abuse theses programs(I assure you it's more than a few) add to the unrest.
Basically there are some pretty heartless people in this country. People can make excuses all they want, but that is the bottom line. In this country, we unfortunately make rules and laws based upon the weakest link.
Because some people abuse the system, they think all of the other good people who are truly grateful for the help should be cut off too. They don't care about the children and babies that might go hungry, or the men who need nourishment to work. That is not only childish and irrational, it is merciless.
But remember, these are the same people that would rather let a man die in the hospital if he doesn't have insurance. They're called Republicans.
There's greed ------ and there's envy...One persons "Yes, some people would rather see others starve. It's called greed, or "I've got mine, now you can all go to hell. " Is another persons "You're a success, because you worked hard for what you have.
You're rich, I'm not, give me some of what you have. " It's much easier that way. No one wants to see anyone starve.
Please stop being over-dramatic. (That seems to be a problem with some liberals)Some people don't like others to get used to entitlements, without attempting to help themselves. There are the deserving -- And there are the scammers and those who always attempt to "beat the system".
Sometimes separating them is seen as being unjust.
The traditional argument is that it is wrong to "give" people stuff. The argument goes "Such programs only encourage indolence and laziness" It's curious that those who advocate the elimination of the poverty programs are invariably the same folks who loudly oppose the nation's minimum wage laws. Perhaps they're right and this would be a better place if we had a feudal society of serfs and sharecroppers.
Yes, some people would rather see others starve. It's called greed, or "I've got mine, now you can all go to hell. " .
I hate welfare I know of a family that has 6 kids she gets a $2300 housing allowance over a thousand in food stamps free oil ect ect her kids dress nice .

They think they work hard and don't want anyone to have an easy life. They don't realize that no one has an easy life.
A conservative is a person who has somethign to lose. A liberal is a person who has lost it. Most of the anti-welfare crowd are people who are living under the delusion that the only reason anyone has for glaiming government assistance is because of their own laziness.
They are also living under the delusion that most liberals are not AWARE that some people are gaming the system and claiming benefits that they do not deserve.
We pay 2400 a month for health insurance. Can't afford to go. To dr. $50 co pay $2500 hospital deductible.

The middle class works and makes money. They can afford to pay for health insurance. They can afford nice vehicles, can afford to live in a house, can afford a big screen TV or iPad.
They have disposable income that they can waste on new clothes, new gadgets, restaurants, movies and vacations. People on welfare live in ratty apartments with loud neighbors, get a bare minimum of money for food, have barley enough clothes, have to rely on public transportation and can never just throw money away on useless material items. You really think the poor choose to be poor?
So what if they get free healthcare. They are humans just like you and if for some reason you ended up losing your job or house and needed to eat or have a place to live the system would be there to help you. Flip86 8 days ago .
What really opened are eyes was. We bought a foreclosure as an investment but was unable to sell so we contacted section 8 the house is a beautiful 6 bed room newly renovated we were asking 1500 section 8 agreed to pay $2300 but house had to be in perfect condition one step was an inch short we had to put in a toilet paper roller holder there were so many silly repairs needed kitchen was completely remodeled with high end appliances but still not good enough for section 8 so we rented to a nice working family for $1400 We than did an experiment we put rentals in the paper way over what any renter could afford the only replies were section 8 recipients they were only ones that could afford such high rentalsAs far as health insurance goes I work 40 hours a week to pay it at $20 an hour but can't afford to use because of crazy deductibles and co pays we are going to use it in extreme circumstances only! My husbands pay pays the other bills housing heat food ect .
In order to rent a 6 bedroom house with section 8 you would have to have either a mother and father + 4 kids or a Mother + 5 kids. With section 8 you pay 30 percent of your income. So, if your income is $1000 a month your base rent payment is $300 a month.
If you are renting a 2 bedroom apartment that is $825 a month, section 8 pays the difference up to $750 because the max they set is $750 for 2 bedrooms. Anything beyond that $750 is payed by the tenant so the tenants share now rises from $300 to $375. The higher the rent gets for a 2 bedroom the more the tenant pays.
There are quite a few eligible people for section 8. People who work can be eligible. Flip86 8 days ago .
My neighbor rents to them the. Check in the amount of $2300 comes from social services ,maybe here on long Island it's more generous. I do feel very bad for the poor in the projects in NYC they live in very dangerous situations I see far too many people abuse the system here on long.
Island. My husband and I both grew up poor without help we shared bedrooms with siblings went without oil at times it certainly didn't hurt us we both work very hard only had as many kids as we could afford My child's dr was away once so I took him to a clinic I was willing to pay cash he was burning up with fever they refused to see him it was for illegal immigrants ,parents obviously working off the books the poor here definitely have more rights and are treated with more respect and can have as many children as they like as well .
