MANY things were NOT completely divided into male and female things. In MUCH of the world through MUCH of human existence, women grew and harvested crops. Milking animals has been done by both sexes, as has tending flocks, and many other tasks.
Caring for the sick, for instance; making pottery and other basic household goods. Yes, in the past, a given woman had to spend a LOT of time being pregnant and nursing babies, to have a good chance of having any kids survive the parents. And that has changed.
Another thing is, as soon as boys were old enough, they joined their fathers, to learn whatever they did in their society. So much more of child-rearing was shared, until fairly recently. The ONLY gender roles we SHOULD have NOW -- that is, things assigned to people based solely on their gender or sex -- should be the ONLY thing that we can't re-assign.
Males can't have babies. Otherwise, we should have FREEDOM for ALL people.? You're leaving out the SANEST, and MOST HUMANE option: GRs are harmful. NO ONE SHOULD BE FORCED at all.
That doesn't mean they should be ACTIVELY DISCOURAGED, either. We shouldn't tell all females they should never be allowed to care for their children, or condemn mothers who are care-givers. That's insane.
Why not let every individual make their own decisions, and let every couple decide for themselves who does what for their family? Why either do the wrong thing of FORCING everyone into GR's, or FORCING them out of them? Why not pretend that adults are grown-ups, with a right to live their lives?
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
