Just curious. I hope this question doesn't cause a huge argument over anyone on here, but I'm just curious to hear other people's opinions on this. I've never found politics to be very interesting, but for the past few years, I've gotten more interested in it.
And you can be a little bit of both or neither; maybe you consider yourself an independent. Asked by musicholickgp 7 months ago Similar questions: liberal democrat conservative republican curious Politics & Law > Politics.

Ha...that's fine. You were just on the role of answering the question. Musicholickgp 7 months ago .
I am a liberal because I care about people. I think everyone in this country has the right to a few basic things - a safe, warm place to live, enough healthy food to eat, and access to decent affordable medical care. I am a liberal because I believe that if people have worked hard all their lives, they deserve to not have to struggle after retirement.
I believe that anyone who has joined the armed forces and put their lives on the line to protect this country and us deserves better than sub standard medical care and having to have their familes go on food stamps to eat. And I believe that people who, through no fault of their own, have lost their jobs and are struggling, deserve help. All of this takes money - and that money comes from us, the citizens of this country.
I am a liberal because, while I have no problem with my tax dollars going to help others, I also think the uber rich, who got that way on the backs of us - need to pay their fair share. The lower and middle class cannot support everyone, while the rich support only themselves. I am a liberal because I believe that companies who make their money here need to spend it here - buy putting Americans to work instead of sending jobs overseas.
I am a liberal because I think we need to develop alternative CLEAN energy sources here - breaking out dependance on foreign oil, and breaking other countries hold on us. However, we cannot allow big oil to ruin the land, water, and air by slash, burn, drill, and greed. We are going to need that air, water, and land unspoiled.
I have kept this comment personalized. The above is my opinion, and my opinion, only. I hope that your request is honored, and this does not turn into a fight - but am not going to hold my breath!
I just want everyone in the Government to do what they were paid to do. Do it well. And stop after tht.
And I want all the voters to take care when they vote and be very clear about what they want the government to do. But when it gets difficult, I want us to persevere and not quit without good reason. So I am a Jackson Democrat.
But few remember "Scoop" Jackson.
Despite my conservative leanings on social issues; they are overridden by that fact that the Republican party is clearly driven by the theory that the rich can write their own rulebook; at the expense of the working class. As a member of the working class, it is in my best interests to oppose that behavior.
If you examine history you will find that conservatism works best. Look at all of the countries that are doing best for their people.
Re TurboB's response-Strange, I consider myself an Independent, with a Conservative political slant. My reasons, strangely enough, are for the same reasons Turbo gave for being a Liberal Democrat. Take away all the scare tactics from the politicians, and party leaders, and here's what I get:First - I think the Liberal/Democratic phych is a turnoff, as Turbo's opening statement implies - "I am a Liberal because I care about people".(and the rest of the world doesn't!) P L E A S E!
Get a grip. --And this feeling, from some/most Liberals, seems to be high on their agenda.(To me, at least). Social programs have, over the years, been forwarded by both parties, we could argue that the Republicans have forwarded more REAL assistance with Social Security and Unemployment benefits, but we'd been arguing for years.
Bottom line, Republicans don't want to end any social benefit, they want to MANAGE it in a more effective way, without all the scare tactics - we have to pay for it -- it can't go on forever, without some adjustments from time to time. That's the HONEST approach. The rich actually do pay their fair share -- have been for years, and will continue.
In this age, with the shrinking globe of business, we must encourage big business to remain in this country, and continue to produce competitive products. The Democratic lean towards anti-big business is a HUGE mistake. Unfortunately, Mom and Pop shops can no longer compete with the real world.
Turbo believes the rich only support themselves - I believe the Liberals have been preaching this mis-information for years, and as they say, ---a lie repeated often enough, becomes the truth to some people.(Incorrect as it is). Just read the thought again. There's no need for any farther explanation.
"Companies who make their money here, need to spend it here" -- You can't force that approach on anyone, and raising their taxes will definitely have them thinking of moving to a cheaper location. That's the real world. I won't get into all the reasons I believe this is another myth put out for some to believe.
But, if I can produce a cheaper nut and bolt in Mexico than I can in Dallas, wouldn't I start to think about moving? Turbo -- Please don't read this as "a fight". I just found it kind of weird that all the items you mentioned for being a Liberal, were some of the same that lead to me Conservative leanings.
Just another opinion.
I was intrigued that almost every prisoner in the prison I worked at, when his personality was tested, tested to be a "guardian" type of character. Each of these convicted criminals thought, in some way, that what he was doing was protecting others. They merely had weird, socially-inappropriate ideas on what protecting involved and whom should be protected.
The problem isn't being a liberal Democrat. I like Senator Al Franken--a lot--because he's trying to protect my civil rights by limiting corporate and governmental access to private data. Fine.
Others think that protecting us means having that data to uncover ne'er do wells and terr'rists. Many people here think they're protecting someone when they're not at all. But we all should be expected to disagree on how we want to be protected--whether we want to be protected.
I am a proud conservative because I believe it is American citizens that make this country great, not the government.
I am a Moderate, like 50% of Republicans and 66% of Democrats. I would vote for the person I feel would be best for all but generally vote Democrat because they most closely stand for what I feel is required.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
