If so, I can try to answer this. I have made jewelry from fine silver, which is basically pure unalloyed silver. I like it for some applications, because it has a different texture and feel than sterling.

It's hard to describe (softer, silky, satiny? ) but I just like it a lot. While it is true that jewelry made from fine silver tarnishes much less than sterling, the price you pay is that it is much softer.

This is ok for a broach or an earring, but for something like a finger ring it just does not work out well. It dings up so badly that it's appearance dulls noticeably in just a few days. Sterling silver it much harder and scratches much less.

So even though it tarnishes, it will last a lot longer before it needs attention. For some pieces I like fine silver, but for anything that will be banged around (rings, necklace, bangles etc) sterling works better..

Really good sterling doesn't tarnish if you take care of it. There are boxes and material I wrap my sterling in to prevent this. It all depends on how you care for it.

I would rather own platinum but the high price keeps me from buying alot of it. Silver goes better with some colors than gold. I wear alot of pink and I just think silver looks better with that color.
