Why can I not redeem miles for a one-way ticket, despite the fact that the flight that I want shows seats available?

Airlines reserve an alloted number of available seats for frequent flier miles. It may be that they are all full, thus you cannot redeem your accrued miles. They keep other seats open for paying customers so that they can meet predicted passenger URL1 may not have anything to do with the fact that you want a one-way ticket.
