While Montréal is a really multicultural city, and despite what a lot of people can think or said, Montréal is NOT 1/2 english. According to the 2001 Canada's official census, only 425 635 had english as their mother tongue while 2 328 400 had French and 760 445 had "non official languages". What is true though is that since Montréal is having many toursits every years and because of the mondialisation and that everyone who want to do buisness in the world need to know english, the vast majority of people have a reasonable knowledge of both Canada's official language.

This being said, it is pretty hard for someone who dosent speak french to live and work in Montréal. Any job that would put you in contact with the public would require you to speak french as well as most compagnis are functioning in french also. So really as an unilingual you would find it harder to fin a job here.

From my own experience of having a boyfriend from Ontario who didn't spoke french before he settled here, and also from my friends from shcool (I go to McGill and many people in my class are unilingual from other provinces...), Montréal is really welcoming to english-speaking newcomers. If you want a proof, I actually have 2 friends from BC and one friend from Boston who are already plaing not to leave after they are done their Bacc. They are actually learing french to stay here.

But, if you want to make the best of your experience here, of course you will have to learn french. By the way their is many programm offered by the governement for new citizens to learn french. And yes your kids will have to go to french school but eh?

Who said that learning a new language was bad? They won't forget all their english skills just because they go to french school and learning Math and sciences is the same in every languages. It is actually a gift to know more then one language.

English speaking immigrants should live in the English speaking Provinces of Canada, preferably British Columbia.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
