Alex and Derek King killed their father with a baseball bat and set the house on fire because they were worried that their father is going to punish them for having ran away from home 10 days earlier. Apparently they were staying at the home of their dad's friend, Chavis, a convicted sex-offender in most of those ten days. It was shown later that Chavis allowed the two boys to hide in a backroom of his trailer when the boys' father had come looking for them.
Chavis had been convicted in 1984 of molesting 3 boys of varying ages. Alex testimony stated that he and Chavis had entered into a sexual relationship.
The Alex and Derek King trial was a complicated mess involving child abuse, sexual predators and confessions by the boys. The older King boy had been in foster care and ultimately returned to his father. The mother was out of the picture except when it seemed convenient for a media event.
She saw them minimally when they were on trial but had attorneys which were paid for by Rosie O'Donnell. The boys said the father was controlling. Derek said he could not take the father pushing Alex around.
But when you read the details it seems like a father trying to protect his sons from a sexual predator (Chavei). There was doubt on the part of many as to whether the truth every really came out. Both boys were convicted and served juvenile sentences.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
