Why do catholics say they are chrsiitan when they belive a human can forgive your sins , when only Jesus can?

We were made in his image being able to possess such qualities as love ect. But god is perfect and therefore does not sin, so he doesn't need forgiveness. Rest assured that we humans CAN be forgiven.
