Why do kids with Asperger's Syndrome have such limited interests?

I'm a fellow Aspergian.. My strong interests come and go, the answer is this simple.. it's the way our brain works. Autism causes us to think and process things differently, so differently in fact that we come across as odd for the way we are. I LOVE spending time with my obsessions, it makes me feel safe, comfortable and happy. It helps the stress of dealing with the world.

So don't ever look down on yourself for it because it's just part of what makes you.... well you!

Not sure if serious. Jpeg Not limited, think of it as specialized. A person with Asperger can be an expert at anything, this I know!

It's not that you only have limited interests, it's just that most things aren't complicated enough to spark your interest in the first place. It's like seeing a jigsaw puzzle and solving it while it's in pieces. Most just isn't good enough.

Most things aren't ordered, settled, arranged to your liking. But when you do find something, it can and often does become an obsession ( from an outsider's point of view ). Analytical, ordered, afraid of sharp changes.

Aspergers means you concentrate, not limited by ability, just choice.

I have a seven year old that has Autism. I had no idea what that was all about until he came along. From learning with our son, it really is more like specialized interests, as the other member mentioned.

The processes are completely different and they are so special. More likely there are one or two (maybe more) specific subjects that they are most comfortable with. For my son, its computers and certain cartoons and reading ANYthing. My son likes to talk about computers, software and hardware.

He asks so many questions about everything and that can be annoying at times but I know that is how he communicates and is learning all the time. Repetition is another way he comforts himself. Don't worry.

There are loads of folks out there you can talk to and you are not alone. My son finds it comforting as well to interact with children his own age with Autism. :-) Be well!

:-).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
